Use the release dog collar to reduce   the risk of choking!

The release dog collar is also known as the break-away collar or the safety dog collar. These dog collars are designed to unfasten if a strong pull is placed on the collars, such as when a dog tries to pull away because its collar is caught on a branch. Apparently, this safety collar was designed after the inventor's dog choked to death when its collar got caught on something. When using this type of dog collar, you need to ensure that the dog can exert sufficient pull to release the collar, without the collar unfastening at the slightest touch.

A potential drawback of this type of collar is that dog can be left with no identity markings, if its dog tag is attached to the collar when it unfastens. Additionally, when you do buy a release collar, make sure that it is of the variety that does not unfasten when it is attached to a leash! .
