The benefits of an electronic dog    collar!

 

 

The electronic dog collar, or shock dog collar as it was once more commonly called, has had some bad press in its time. Fortunately time has moved on and advances have been made, with the technology employed in these collars, to reduce previous criticisms.

 

The electronic dog collar works by remotely applying a static shock to the dog, which is now much more controllable in terms of intensity. The effect can be likened to the mild form of shock you may receive sometimes after walking across a carpet and touching a door knob. Whilst the shock surprises you, the event shouldn’t cause you any lasting harm.

 

Electronic collars have been proven effective in controlling bad behaviour, such as chasing cars or knocking trash cans over. Electronic dog collars can also be used as bark dog collars or anti bark collars (see Bark Collar). As the name implies, bark dog collars are used to stop barking, especially nuisance dog barking.

 

The electronic or electric dog collar allows control of the dog without the use of a leash by use of a remote unit, and can work in excess of 100 meters (possibly up to 1000 meters and beyond). One benefit of this physical separation is that the dog will learn to correct its behaviour without its owner being present.

 

Some users of these collars have been impressed with the speed at which their dogs corrected their actions, which is a benefit for owners who have difficulty finding the time they would like to spend training their dogs, and/or the a dog’s anti social behaviour is causing increasing concern.

 

At one time the use of these collars was associated with the so called ‘tough’ or ‘hard’ dog, but used correctly many now consider that they can help train dogs within a broad range of temperaments.

 

The electronic collar has many benefits and if you believe these could be beneficial to your dog, then it is probably best if the collar is gradually introduced. This is so that the dog’s reaction can more carefully be gauged and you can then modify its introduction and use accordingly.
